Walter L. Northby

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Walter L. Northby (0-890216), First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers), U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 202d Engineer Battalion, Philippine Scouts, in action against enemy forces from 15 April 1942 to 6 May 1942, at Corregidor, Philippine Islands. First Lieutenant Northby’s intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
