Captain McClure displayed exceptional gallantry during the battle at Soissons, July 18 – 23, 1918. From October 4 – 12, 1918, near Exermont, France, he displayed extraordinary heroism in leading his men forward under heavy enemy rifle, machine-gun, and artillery fire, successfully repulsing the enemy’s attacks.
