The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Walter S. Hiller, Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 55th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Bellefonte Farm, France, November 10, 1918. Under direct fire from seven enemy machine-guns, Corporal Hiller led a detachment across the River Meuse and destroyed a machine-gun nest which occupied a dominating position one thousand yards in advance of his company.
