The Navy Cross is awarded to Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Wayne Barber, U.S. Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service while serving with the Marines at the front in France October 4, 1918. Pharmacist’s Mate Third Class Barber displayed marked bravery and devotion to duty in caring for the wounded under heavy shell and machine gun fire until he was severely wounded.
