Wayne Williams
Silver Star
U.S. Army
World War II
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Wayne Williams (35659785), Private, U.S. Army, for gallantry in action in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, 6 June 1944. When his company’s advance was halted by several aprons of barbed-wire under enemy machine-gun fire, Private Williams voluntarily advanced and, with the aid of a bangalore torpedo, caused a breach in the entanglements. Then, with unflinching bravery, he led the assault on enemy fortifications and distinguished himself by his presence of mind and fearlessness.
