Wilhelm Smith

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Gunner’s Mate First Class Wilhelm Smith, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in line of his profession on board the U.S.S. New York, for entering a compartment filled with gases and rescuing a shipmate on 24 January 1916.
