Will Bruce

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to Will Bruce, Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action south of Soissons, France, July 18, 1918. Private Bruce with three others advanced in front of our lines and silenced an enemy machine-gun post, killing the crew of four. The post was causing heavy casualties on the left flank of the company. On the following day with a comrade he advanced beyond the lines and silenced two machine guns, forcing the crews to surrender. In the latter operation he was wounded.
