Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 370 (October 4, 1945)

The President of the United States takes pride in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Staff Sergeant (then Private First Class) Willard K. Seymour, 38 697 479, Infantry, Company “L”, 7th Infantry Regiment. On 26 January 1945, Sergeant Seymour abandoned a covered position near Houseen, France, and ran 300 yards through machine gun and rifle fire to a soldier from another unit who had been seriously wounded. While enemy small arms fire was directed at him, Sergeant Seymour dragged the casualty to a position of safety and administered first aid to him. By his courageous rescue, he saved the soldier from further exposure to enemy fire and from freezing to death.
