By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal William Curlee (ASN: 39478), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Corporal Curlee distinguished himself by gallantry in action and brilliant leadership while serving with Company F, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Tuillerie Ferme, France, 4 November 1918.

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to William Curlee, Corporal, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Medeah Ferme, France, October 3, 1918. Corporal Curlee, together with four other men, charged a machine-gun nest containing three heavy machine guns and captured the three guns and 20 prisoners.
