    The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to William Ewing Boone, Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in action in displaying valorous leadership throughout two days of attack near Soissons, France, July 18 – 19, 1918. Lieutenant Boone was killed while charging enemy machine guns at the head of his platoon.
