    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pride in presenting the Medal of Honor (Posthumously) to Sergeant William Laing, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 29 September 1864, while serving with Company F, 158th New York Infantry, in action at Chapin’s Farm, Virginia. Sergeant Laing was among the first to scale the parapet.
