    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Drummer William Magee, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 5 December 1864, while serving with Company C, 33d New Jersey Infantry, in action at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. In a charge, Drummer Magee was among the first to reach a battery of the enemy and, with one or two others, mounted the artillery horses and took two guns into the Union lines.
