William S. Larsen

For gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam.  Private First Class Larson distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 2 June 1969, while serving as medic with Company D, 1st Battalion (Airmobile), 5th Cavalry during a search and clear mission in Tay Ninh Province, Republic of Vietnam.  Hearing that a patrol had sustained heavy casualties, he ran up to help them; repeatedly braving intensive enemy fire he treated the wounded until he himself suffered a serious wound. Disregarding the gravity of his wound he courageously continued to constantly expose himself to fire while treating the other wounded. Only when he was wounded a second and third time did he cease in his efforts to aid his comrades. His gallant action is run keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
