    The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Colonel William Wirt Henry, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 19 October 1864, while serving with 10th Vermont Infantry, in action at Cedar Creek, Virginia. Though suffering from severe wounds, Colonel Henry rejoined his regiment and led it in a brilliant charge, recapturing the guns of an abandoned battery.
