James Howarth

The Distinguished Service Cross is presented to James Howarth, Sergeant, British Army, for extraordinary heroism in action near Kadish, Russia, October 7, 1918. Sergeant Howarth gallantly led his platoon in five successive attacks upon a strongly fortified line of blockhouses. During the withdrawal he exposed himself to heavy fire in order to direct the fire of a Lewis gun crew in order to secure the safe evacuation of his wounded.
