The American Defense Service Medal was a medal awarded to members of the United States military who served on active duty between September 8, 1939, and December 7, 1941. The medal was first created in 1942 and was awarded to both military and civilian personnel who served in the United States during World War II. The medal is made of bronze and is round, with a laurel wreath on the obverse and the words "American Defense" on the reverse.
