(Navy and Coast Guard)

The Navy Expeditionary Medal was established by Executive Order 10074 on February 11, 1947. The medal was originally intended to recognize Navy personnel who had participated in landing operations and other combat operations against enemy forces during World War II. However, the medal was later authorized for other combat operations, such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The Navy Expeditionary Medal is awarded to Navy personnel who have participated in a designated military operation or who have served in a designated area during a time of hostilities.
