18 Medals of Honor are Accredited to Mississippi

  • 53 Medals of Honor were awarded for action "on the ground" in Mississippi during the Civil War.

  • Brandon's CPT LOUIS WILSON received the Medal of Honor for his heroic leadership and actions during World War II.  He went on to move upward through the ranks eventually not only achieving general officer rank but in 1975 became Commandant of the Marine Corps.
