47 Medals of Honor are Accredited to Vermont

  • Vermont's William "Willie" Johnston is probably the youngest person ever to receive the Medal of Honor.  At the time of his heroism he was an 11 year old Drummer Boy with the 3d Vermont Infantry and had just celebrated his 13th birthday when the Medal was actually presented to him.

"For Conspicuous Gallantry and Intrepidity in Action At the Risk of Life Above and Beyond the Call of Duty"
